January 2, 2018

Over the years, I have been extremely fortunate for all of the opportunities that I have had to travel abroad.  The not so fortunate part, happens when I first get to my destination, when it feels like I’ve gained 20 lbs + my shoes don’t seem to fit anymore.  Or TFW you look in the mirror and wonder ‘what happened!?’.  Raise your hand if you’ve been here before.  It’s seriously no fun, and delays me from fully enjoying the start to my trip.  When I was in college, I would just deal with these traveling woes, but when I was in Israel this past summer, I realized that I was no longer 20 years old + needed to come up with a better way to travel as a real life grown up.  With my upcoming trip, I looked for easy + effective solutions to combat the bloat + unpleasant feelings that come with long flights + put them in a list to use for inspo for your next adventure.
(I am not an expert + these are suggestions based off of personal preferences.  Please contact a health professional before taking any supplements or trying new products.)

I always like to carry baby wipes with me whenever I’m on the go, they’re a lifesaver in almost any situation you can think of.  I came across these non-toxic wipes from Ode to Clean, which carry a higher price tag, but I would feel more comfortable using on my face + skin.

I’m having a bit of a moment with facial sprays right now.  Not only is the air super dry thanks to the cold weather, but dry cabin air is only making the situation worse.  I’m going to use Herbivore’s version of this, as a quick refresh after a long day of travel.

I’ve been into crystals since college, and I always like to have some on hand with me no matter where I go.  I find that holding them makes me feel more at ease, and if anything is a tangible distraction.  Amethyst is supposed to be the best for travel, as it’s calming + considered good luck.

For anyone that has a long day or two of travel, this is perfect to help you feel refreshed when you don’t have access to a shower.  My hairdresser also yells at me if I wash everyday, so this will be helpful as my hair adjusts to new water.  This brand is also non-toxic!

If you’re lucky enough to have a bathtub where you’re staying, this soak or epsom salts, are perfect for eliminating toxins + combating travel bloat.  Unfortunately, my Air Bnb doesn’t have a tub, but I found a spa with a Himalayan salt room to detox 😉

This magnesium lotion is perfect for anyone who gets sore after flying or after doing a lot of walking.  Magnesium is an all natural supplement that helps relax the body.  You can apply this topically wherever you have discomfort, to relax your muscles, just read through their instructions, for proper application.

Stuffy noses are common when you fly, with all of the germs in such a small space.  This is even worse when you travel during winter.  I love using a saline spray to help clear out any germs I may inhale.

Another thing on my list for the New Year, essential oils.  In all of my research for traveling tips, I saw a lot about using lavender essential oil, especially in helping with sleep while you adjust to new time zones.

This one might be the most important.  I take probiotics regularly to keep my gut aligned, but it’s even more crucial while traveling, as you adjust to new water + food.  These are also perfect because they don’t have to be refrigerated.  I used a similar probiotic while I was in Israel and was able to eat new foods, even things with gluten + dairy, without throwing my stomach into shock.

My favorite part of yoga class is when we get to use these guys.  These would be perfect for rolling out any knots you may get from awkward sleeping positions on the plane, or to help circulate blood flow.

The holy grail of travel.  I start taking this sometimes a month before traveling or an important event, to build up my immunity, and then take during the day of travel as well.

No description really needed on this one…

And last but not least, SWELL.  One of my all time favorite possessions that I own.  When they say that this thing will keep your drink cold for 24 hours, they are not kidding.  I’ve had ice water stay ALL DAY.  This is ideal for all of the water you should be drinking, in order to stay hydrated during flight.  Also, just look at how pretty this one bottle is.  Swell has so many colors + patterns, and is extremely durable since it’s made of stainless steel.  Ok my Swell rant is done, but seriously, Swell, I love you.
