How to add drama and dimension to any room, without being overpowering.
The color black is a staple. LBD was coined for a reason, and anyone who knows me, knows how much of a fan I am of it. Despite my love for all things light and airy (and blush), black is my power color, and I wear it almost everyday. Just as black can add elegance and drama to an outfit, it can do the same for your home. I think often times people are afraid to use it, for fear that the room will feel too dark or even depressing. However, using black in the right amounts, will take your space to a whole new level. Check out the examples below and add some black into your life.

So I must admit, I was not on board with this whole black accent thing when I first saw Lauren Conrad’s home tour. I thought, “This doesn’t work. It’s a perfect white kitchen, why would you ruin it with black?” After taking a bit of time, I realized how genius it was. I am a huge lover of white kitchens with the traditional accents, but the use of black hardware and faucets is perfection. There is nothing more classic then black + white together, and the amount is minimal enough to not be in your face, but rather just flows together with the rest of the space to create a rich + cohesive vibe.

Using black lighting as an accent to a light kitchen, really makes a statement + creates a focal point. Pair that with black trim + greenery, and you’ve got magic.

For a small but powerful touch, pair black accents like hardware + faucets, with white tile + dark grout. The tile is able to stand out with a dark + contrasted grout, and is an unexpected detail.

Again with the black trim (can you tell I am obsessed?). The dark doorway against the white shiplap is really warm to me. Keeping the flooring, walls, and most of the furniture light, allows the dining chair’s lines + shape to stand out. The black frame also pops of of the white walls.

This is what monochrome dreams are made of. I love a black box framed coffee table, and it was made to be paired with a textured rug. Add in a black + white gallery wall for some personalization + to show off your artistic side.

It seems like everyone is obsessed with shiplap. I love it, but have you really seen black shiplap before? It’s a step up from a black focal wall, and looks stunning with wood tones + gold accents.

Hexagon tile for the win! This space is so sleek yet feels timeless with the vintage sink + clean lines of the shower. The wood also adds in an extra element of interest. This example shows a darker wood, but I think going lighter, would add nice contrast.
