Nobody wants to come across as ~thirsty~, especially my skin. If you live in New England, or anywhere that gets below 45 degrees, you know the struggle. Even more difficult, is the transition between winter and spring. It could be 60+ degrees one day, and snowing the next. I know personally, I’ve already began planning my spring wardrobe even though we have at least a month here before I can start wearing any of it. With the weather flipping back and forth, I’ve found it helpful to stick with my winter routine, until it’s truly starting to feel like summer. Check out the list below, of the clean beauty essentials that I’ve cultivated over the years, to help keep my skin glowing, even during the winter months.
1.OBC Night Balm
This product is amazing and was my first attempt at trying a night balm. I’ve only been using it for about 2 months, but it’s been approved by myself, and by my mom, so it’s fairly versatile. It’s also local to Boston which I love! My skin is sensitive, so I do find that using it every night, is too much. I typically use a couple of times a week or when it’s drier than normal, alternating with my jojoba oil in between.
Pro tip – I use this on my hands when they are especially dry, at night before bed.
2. Instant Glow Body Oil
I am fairly new to using this one, but I love how easy it is to apply. It smells amazing and is perfect when you are short on time (which is always the case for me…). I use this one in the morning when I’m in a pinch.
Pro tip – use this right after getting out of the shower (true for all moisturizers, but especially this one) to maximize the absorption.
3. Pai Facewash
This ish is so luxurious. It honestly makes my Taurus heart so happy every time I use it. The smell is amazing, it’s velvety, and she leaves my skin feeling so soft. I cannot recommend this cleanser enough. 10/10 would recommend.
Pro tip – take a few deep breaths as you cleanse, and appreciate how good it smells.
4. Pai Daily Moisturizer
This winter, I decided to be a real, established woman, and implement a specific day time AND night time moisturizer. I landed on this for my morning moisturizer, because I love Pai’s cleanser so much. If I’m looking for more of a dewey glow, I will stick to my Jojoba oil, but this is fast drying and smells v good.
Pro tip – on insanely freezing days, I actually put Jojoba oil on my face first, and the Pai on top. My logic is that the oil would replenish the natural oils in my face, and then the daily moisturizer would sit on top and seal it in? There is no science to back this up, but my skin felt moisturized all day.
5. Jojoba Oil
This is my holy grail. I use it for just about everything – for my lotion, for my face, to remove my makeup, to moisturize my lips, to power my car (joking…maybe…), but it really is so versatile. There is no smell and a little goes a long way. I know oil isn’t for everyone, but it’s a staple in my routine year round.
Pro tip – I buy the enormous bottle to cut down on waste, but also because I use this daily, and I’ve read that this oil has an extremely long shelf life (like not sure if it actually ever expires). Whole Foods sells really inexpensive glass bottles (less than $3) – I bought the one with the eye dropper, and refill as needed.
6. Emily Skin Soothers
Besides the fact that this is a local, Massachusetts brand, I love this product in the winter. The smell can be really strong at first, but it truly does help those with eczema (like myself) and is great for anyone with super dry, itchy afflictions, or for preventing. I will say, this takes a bit of time to absorb, so I use this one at night, however, I cannot recommend this enough for my sensitive skin friends. I’ve even sent a link to my allergist, for her to share with other patients.
Pro tip – I buy the family size to be more economical. They also have soap, which I was a huge fan of until they added… COCONUT OIL. Why guys whyyyyyy? 🙁
7. Dry Brush
This is something that I do all year, but nonetheless, it’s perfect for exfoliating dry winter skin. Dry brushing has lots of benefits and helps promote circulation, but it also just feels amazing. I like to dry brush 1x a week (or when I remember, if I’m being honest) before getting into the shower, and my skin is silky smooth once I get out and moisturize.
Pro tip – research the best ways to clean and maintain. I did not do that with my first one and I had to replace.
- OBC Night Balm
- Instant Glow Body Oil
- Pai Facewash
- Pai Daily Moisturizer
- Jojoba Oil
- Emily Skin Soothers
- Dry Brush
It’s taken a lot of trial and error to see which products work best for me. Overall, my skin loves Jojoba oil the best, but I’ve found that using a mix of a few things, depending on weather severity, has helped immensely. Let me know if you try any of these out, or if you have a favorite of your own that you find to work magic! This post is not sponsored by any of these brands, as I truly love and use all of these personally. Having said that, as a Follain ambassador, you can use code ref-thelovelylocale for 15% off online orders if you are interested in any of their products.
Sending warm vibes xx Sarah
