Artwerk – one of my favorite finishing touches in a space. I get asked about this topic from my friends and clients quite often, so I decided to round up all of my favorite online sources, in one place.
In my professional opinion, the best part about choosing art, or starting an art collection, is that there is no way to get it wrong! If you are looking for a specific size, to fit a specific space, then sure, size does matter…
But if you stumble upon an amazing piece at a flea market, or while browsing online, that makes you happy for no reason, or that you just cannot live without, I truly believe that you can find a way to make it work. Sometimes the only intention or reasoning needed, is that you love it.
Check out my rec’s below…
p.s. see if you can spot the trends in my own picks ;).
1. Chairish – $$$
I absolutely love the eclectic vibe of Chairish’s Print Shop Collection and Artist Original Collective. There’s a wide selection of artists and subjects, as well as a good mix of price ranges. I’m a huge fan of Leslie Weaver (see option 1) because each one of her portraits is a GD ~mewd~. This piece and this piece are part of my personal collection. Chairish is also one of my frequently visited, when I’m in the market for vintage or antique works.

2. Minted – $$
Minted is a staple when I’m looking for original pieces that are affordable and beautiful. They have a great variety of frames to choose from, and you can really customize on the size and matting, as well. You can also choose to forgo the frame altogether, or purchase it on a canvas, if that’s your vibe. I recommend Minted to family, friends, and clients, who are new to purchasing art, because it’s a great introduction and they make the whole process streamlined and approachable. It’s also nice to support emerging artists!

3. Anthropologie – $$
Anthropologie is another great option when you want a pre-curated, mid-range selection to choose from. All of their pieces are framed, as well, so the whole process couldn’t be easier. I love the whole aesthetic of Anthropologie, so if I’m in a pinch, I know I will be able to find a great piece without having to do much digging.

4. Artfully Walls $$
I went wild with this one, but their options are just TOO GOOD, so here are 2 different roundups for you. Artfully Walls has a wide range of subjects, sizes, frames, and styles to choose from. Anthropologie also has a collab with these guys, so if you like Anthro’s aesthetic, you can go straight to the source. Like Minted, you’re able to choose between framed or unframed, and if you’d like to have the piece matted (that white border between the frame and piece of art) , allowing for customization, suited for all different budgets. I am a huge fan of AW because they have really eclectic and fun options, and this is another approachable and seamless process.

5. Etsy $
At this point, I’m sure almost everyone has heard of or purchased from Etsy. I’ve found over the years, that there are a lot of amazing artists that sell their work on the platform, and there are many downloadable print shops, which is nice for those on a budget. You would need to print and frame on your own, but with local print shops or places like Staples for printing, and IKEA or Framebridge for framing, you could have a really beautiful piece without spending a fortune.

6. Juniper Print Shop $
Jenny Komenda is an interior designer who created her online print shop a few years ago. There are so many options now, and I love the style and wide range of sizes available. You are able to choose between digital downloads, or physical prints. They also have sizes suited specifically to fit IKEA frames (zero guesswork!). If you are willing to invest a bit in framing, I always recommend Framebridge because of their selection and seamless ordering process. If you have a digital file, you can upload directly on the site, or you can send in a physical piece (they provide a tube for safe delivery).

7. Tappan $$$$
I’m new to Tappan, but I love that it offers artwork from emerging artists all over the world. These are definitely investment, collection pieces, but there is such a wide range of unique and interesting works. I would recommend Tappan to those who are looking to invest in a truly one of a kind piece, and / or add to their collection, more-so than those beginning their art journey . I am currently loving Cheryl Humphreys’ work (number 5) and look forward to discovering more with them.

8. The Poster Club $
Admittedly, I haven’t ordered from The Poster Club… yet. I’ve been pining over this European company on Instagram for awhile now, but I’m trying to be responsible and not purchase any more art, until I get some additional wall space to utilize ;). I really love the Scandinavian, minimal aesthetic, as well as reproductions of famous pieces (I am a huge fan of Henri Matisse). They offer clean and simple frames, as well as frame paint, if you are feeling crafty.

Ok that is all… for now… Please remember that collecting art is an organic, ever-evolving process, unique to each person. There is no right or wrong way. I always encourage clients, friends, and family, to buy what they are most drawn to because the sole purpose of its existence, is to inspire, move, and evoke emotion.
These shops are all great starts, whether you’re looking to get a collection started, or if you’re in the market for one piece to fill that blank wall. Extra credit for supporting local artists or incorporating vintage / antique pieces.
Happy discovering!
xx Sarah
